Having many leadership roles in non-profit and for-profit organizations over the last 30 years, Michael brings decades of leadership experience into everything he does. With a background of education, curriculum publishing, and information/instructional technology Mr. Young entered the field of healthcare simulation in 2006 within a nursing BSN program and taking point in the integration of clinical simulation into its facilities and educational activities. Since then, he has become an active voice and partner for simulation programs all around North America through his participation on public forums, conferences and authorship.
In 2013, Mr. Young was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. In that same year, he became the chair of the work group tasked with developing what would be named the “Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist” professional certification (SSH) and has served in that role even as the Certification Committee evolved into today’s SSH Certification Council.
In 2015, Michael co-authored the chapter on “Transitioning to a New Center” (Young, Scherwitz, 2015) in Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs (DESP). In 2016, he was the co-editor and contributing author of "Healthcare Simulation: A Guide for Operations Specialists" (Gantt, Young, 2016).

In 2014. Michael was recruited by Level 3 Healthcare as the subject matter expert in the field of simulation operations and technology. The role has evolved somewhat to focus on simulation strategy and design in the field of healthcare simulation. Now in 2018, H. Michael Young is still blazing the trail for simulation operations and technology by mentoring many in this emerging field.
